NeWay — Privacy Policy
NeWay is a macOS app that lets you talk to and direct AI assistants on your Mac. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it goes, and your choices. Plain language on purpose.
The short version
- No account, no sign-up. We don't ask for your name or email. Each install gets a random ID used only to count usage.
- Your voice never touches our servers. Audio streams directly from your Mac to OpenAI.
- We don't sell your data, and our key server forwards your requests without storing their contents — it only counts how many you make (to prevent abuse).
- Some data is processed by OpenAI, Anthropic, and (only if you connect them) Composio. Their policies apply to that processing.
What the app handles, and where it goes
| Data | When | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone audio | While you hold the talk shortcut | Directly to OpenAI (Realtime) from your Mac. Not through our servers. |
| Screenshots | When you ask about your screen | To Anthropic via our key server (forwarded, not stored). |
| Selected / on-screen text | When you ask about a selection or window | To Anthropic via our key server. |
| Files you drop on NeWay | When you drop a file to ask/act on it | Path and contents to the AI agent (Anthropic) to do the task. |
| Your typed requests | When you type a task or question | To Anthropic via our key server. |
| Connected apps (optional) | Only if you connect Gmail/Calendar/etc. | Accessed via Composio to fulfil your request, routed through our key server. |
| Random install ID | Always | Sent to our key server to meter usage and apply fair-use limits. Not linked to your identity. |
Background agents run on your Mac
When you give NeWay a task, the agent runs locally on your computer. It can read and modify files and control apps that you direct it to. Its reasoning is performed by Anthropic (text of the task and relevant context is sent there). Review what it does before relying on it.
Our key server
NeWay supplies the AI access for you, so you don't need your own API keys. To do that, requests pass through a key server we operate. It swaps in the real API credentials and forwards your request to OpenAI/Anthropic/Composio. It records counts (for abuse prevention and quotas) and standard operational logs (timestamps, your install ID, IP address, status codes). It is not designed to store the contents of your prompts, screenshots, or files.
Data stored locally on your Mac
Settings, a local log, and recent voice-interaction history are stored on your Mac (under
~/Library/…) and never leave it except as described above. Delete the app and its
~/Library/Application Support/NeWay and ~/Library/Neway folders to remove them.
Third-party processors
Your content is processed by these services under their own terms:
- OpenAI — voice — openai.com/policies/privacy-policy
- Anthropic (Claude) — screen/text/task reasoning — anthropic.com/legal/privacy
- Composio — only if you connect accounts — composio.dev/privacy
If you connect Gmail/Calendar, you authorize access through Google's standard OAuth screen; the connection is held by Composio and can be revoked any time in the app or in your Google account settings.
macOS permissions, and why
- Microphone — to hear your voice requests.
- Screen Recording — to capture a screenshot when you ask about your screen.
- Accessibility — to read selected/on-screen text and to type/click on your behalf when you ask.
- Automation (Apple Events) — to control apps (Notes, Calendar, Music) you ask NeWay to use.
You can decline any of these in System Settings → Privacy & Security; the related features simply won't work.
Your choices and rights
- Use the app without connecting any accounts.
- Disconnect connected apps at any time.
- Delete local data by removing the folders above.
- Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/EEA, UK, California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, or to object to processing. Contact us at dmitrii@alowdi.com and we will respond as required by law. Note we hold very little: a random install ID and operational logs.
Retention
Operational key-server logs are kept for 30 days then deleted. Local data lives on your Mac until you remove it. Third parties retain data per their own policies.
Security
Traffic to and through our key server uses TLS. We don't store your content. No method is 100% secure; use the app accordingly.
Children
NeWay is not directed to children under 16 and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; we'll change the date above and, for material changes, note it in the app or on our site.
